What is Sonography?

Sonography is a non-invasive technique, which uses High Frequency sound waves to generate diagnostic images of the organ under investigation.

 

What are the applications and uses of ultrasound?

Almost all body parts and organs can be evaluated with sonography.

Confirmation of Pregnancy, evaluating satisfactory fetal growth and the position of the fetus are some of the many obstetric applications.

 

All abdominal Organs including liver, kidneys, prostate, pancreas etc. and the glands in the neck i.e. thyroid and salivary glands, can be evaluated. Eyes, Blood vessels, testes and the breasts can also be examined satisfactorily.

 

Will it hurt?

It will not and it is a completely safe modality. There is no pain, no harmful radiations or magnetic waves. No harmful contrast injections are required.

Besides, only trained and qualified radiologists will perform these tests. Keep your worries aside as you are in safe hands.

 

Do I need to prepare for these tests?

  • Based on the procedure, fasting or other required instructions will be provided to you at the time of booking the appointment.
  • Carry doctor's prescription on the day of the test.
  • Carry any previous reports you may have.

 

How long will the test take?

Usually, the tests take between 10-15 minutes of time. However, in certain circumstances you may need to wait or the doctor may need to examine you again. Your doctor will communicate with you and explain the need for the same.

Certain special investigations like Anomaly scan, Renal Doppler etc. require between 30-60 mins. and you will be informed accordingly.

 

When will the reports be ready?

At Proscan Diagnostics, we strive to achieve a short turn around time and provide you with the sonography reports immediately after the test, when possible.

Our aim is to provide you with the reports on the same day. In certain complicated cases, the doctor may take longer and you will be informed accordingly.

 

What is 3D/4D Ultrasound?

Using ultrasound and real-time 3D, 4D images can be obtained of different parts of the body, especially of the fetus in motion. It gives an accurate impression of the baby's features and also allows doctors to detect any abnormalities at an early stage.

Kindly note that 3D/4D sonographies are done only by appointment and the test may take 45-90 minutes. Video Clips and images are provided on a CD to create long lasting memories!
